Gratitude Spiral: Day 326

Today, I’m grateful for the variety of black-eyed susans still blooming in my garden.

Many flowers have gone by already and temperatures are threatening to dip into the thirties soon. So, I’m enjoying these while I can. A friend gave me some black-eyed susans from her garden many years ago. I haven’t planted any of them since then. They just pop up all over my front gardens every spring. It’s like they feel right at home here. 🙂

Gratitude Spiral: Day 306

Today, I’m grateful for the resources to expand my garden.

We have enough room in our yard to carve out some more garden space and the tools and time it takes to get the job done. I’m thankful for those blessings. And excited for the final results.

Gratitude Spiral: Day 251

Today, I’m grateful for the time and energy for a small landscaping project.

This strange season of relative isolation due to a global pandemic has left many of us at home with time on our hands. Sometimes it’s hard to focus and channel our energy into being productive (or creative). There are projects, large and small, on our wish lists. One of mine is to upgrade an area under a tree in my front yard where nothing grows well. The project is finally begun! 🙂

Gratitude Spiral: Day 249

Today, I’m grateful for the hibiscus blooming at the front corner of our yard.

Almost every year, like clockwork, it blooms on the first day of August. The lunch-plate sized flowers open their pink and white faces to the sun and last a few days each. As the first flowers droop, more open, making a spectacle for passers-by for at least the rest of the month.

Gratitude Spiral: Day 238

Today, I’m grateful for nasturtium flowers.

Nasturtium foliage is full and fun. I almost forget sometimes that flowers will eventually bloom out of it. The variety of small red, orange, and yellow blossoms are a joy to see peeking out between my squash and tomato plants. 🙂

Gratitude Spiral: Day 230

Today, I’m grateful for coleus plants.

I first learned about coleus while working at a greenhouse during my high school years. Their colorful foliage beats fading summer flowers any day! I always plant a few in a shady spot out back where I can enjoy them all summer long. So pretty!

Gratitude Spiral: Day 212

Today, I’m grateful for black-eyed Susan buds.

Like a small fist holding a treasure, these buds are ready to burst open! So fun to see everything bloom in its own time in the garden. 🙂

Gratitude Spiral: Day 206

Today, I’m grateful for nameless blue flowers.

OK, they’re not really nameless, but I don’t know what they are. And I’m thankful for them anyway. They close up every night and open to the sun every morning. Their delicate purple-blue petals flutter in the wind and add a unique splash in my front garden. 🙂

Gratitude Spiral: Day 179

Today, I’m grateful for green strawberries.

The strawberry plants are covered with flowers, and little green fruits are popping out all over. In the next month, they’ll ripen, and I’ll be racing against the chipmunks for all those red, juicy berries.
